Downtown Developer and Crossroads visionary endorses the benefits of a Crossroads Stadium.

Becky Blades – Advocates YES!

Becky began as a “no” for the downtown stadium but became a strong YES after finding out the facts. She shares why.

The FACTS

  • Comprehensive Support for Crossroads Businesses

The Kansas City Royals have announced initiatives ensuring all small businesses and property owners within the new stadium’s footprint in the Crossroads District are fully supported. This plan includes compensation, purchase options, or relocation assistance to prime locations within the Crossroads, guaranteeing their continued success and contribution to the district’s vibrant community. These measures demonstrate a commitment to maintaining the Crossroads as a thriving hub for local entrepreneurs and businesses amidst the development of the new ballpark.

  • No Tax Increase: The initiative calls for the extension, not addition to the existing sales tax. It’s a strategic investment in our city’s vibrancy without imposing additional financial burdens on our community.

  • Historical Precedence:

17 of the last 18 MLB stadiums built in the US have been downtown ballparks.

Each of these downtown stadiums and ballparks have been driving forces for those cities, bringing community together to benefit economically & culturally.

The Royals Stadium will follow suit, will make the Crossroads and the downtown Kansas City areas thrive like never before.

  • Echoing Major League Success

Embracing a strategy that has brought vitality and success to cities like Denver, Nashville, Baltimore, and San Diego, we position Kansas City to thrive alongside these metropolises. This venture heralds a bright future for the Crossroads Community and the Crossroads Community Association, ensuring our neighborhood flourishes as a vibrant hub of activity and prosperity. This is a win, win, win for everyone.

  • A Small Metro with Big League Heart

Kansas City is one of the smallest metros to boast two major league teams, highlighting our immense community spirit and dedication to sports. This rare honor boosts our economy and national presence, uniting us in support of a legacy that will inspire future generations.

  • John Sherman and the Hunt Family Legacy:

Beyond Business: Successful entrepreneur. Dynamic civic leader. Generous philanthropist. And the third owner of the Kansas City Royals: John Sherman. His acquisition of the Royals was a declaration of faith in Kansas City’s spirit and potential.

Sherman was named Philanthropist of the year in 2020 and was named the KC Chamber’s 2021 Kansas Citian of the Year.

Community First: Sherman, alongside the Hunts, have unwavering dedication to our city’s growth and community’s welfare. Both families have lead the teams to championship wins. Today they are fostering the legacy of generosity, integrity, and community upliftment to Kansas City by ensuring that Royals and Chiefs remain integral threads in Kansas City’s vibrant tapestry.

“We are pleased to be collaborating with the Crossroads Community Association to demonstrate how we can invest in and contribute to this part of our city,”

“We have the opportunity to advance a once-in-a-generation proposal to return baseball to Kansas City’s urban core, and these commitments demonstrate how we can accomplish that as good neighbors.”

Sarah Tourville, Kansas City Royals.

  • Keeping the Heart of the Crossroads Vibrant

The Royals Stadium’s blueprint is designed with our city’s character in mind, focusing on minimal disruption. It aims to breathe new life into areas like the vacant Kansas City Star Building and underutilized spaces, becoming a beacon of considerate urban evolution.

Understanding the significance of each business in the Crossroads, we are dedicated to more than just relocating the few businesses within the new stadium’s footprint. The Royals Organization and I are personally committed to not only assist in their move but also to ensure they flourish even more within our community. This initiative is about propelling growth and fostering improvement.

    Strategic Development

Our goal is to guarantee that every affected business finds a suitable new location in the Crossroads, allowing them to continue enriching our neighborhood’s vibrant and dynamic atmosphere.

  • Your Community, Your Businesses, Our Commitment

Despite concerns raised by some, the movement enabled by a YES vote on Q1 involves only a handful of businesses. We’re wholeheartedly devoted to supporting each of these businesses through their transition. This initiative isn’t about displacement—it’s about creating opportunities for expansion and reinforcing the vitality of our community.
